Protectionism in the developed world

Quick, what is common to Indian communists and American conservatives?

Apparently, they both hate globalization! Watch this negative ad made to sully the reputation of one of the rival candidates for Governer in the state of Arkansas.

The ad used Indian actors, “hollywood-Indian” background music, and stock videos of India, with the theme being “Bangalore says, Thank You”. The idea being, that the candidate in question has supported the offshoring of jobs to India, and the Indians in Bangalore thank him for his generosity.

What’s funny is that their friends from the other end of the political spectrum, viz. the Indian Communist party, have used similarly racist and poorly informed stories to talk about how the American companies are stealing from the poor in India. If I remember correctly, the great nationalization of 1977 was driven by similar thinking. That’s when IBM, Coke and others were asked to leave India.

Strange political bedfellows, these politicians have!
